If that's you then how you present yourself to the world is how the world sees your business. There is no getting around this in 2021. And the main way the world sees you is through social media. You might love that and are all in on all the platforms or you may be old school and hate the fact that social media is so prevalent today.

Like it or not, it's here to stay for a long time. As long as you are alive and running your small business it will be a major player in how people see who you are and what you do.

So How Do You Play in the Social Media Sandbox?

That's a good question with an easy answer. You make sure your social media profiles are set up to make you look like the professional you really are.

Really, it is simple but maybe one in a hundred business owners sets up their accounts to look professional.

Why is that?

Ok, most people try to make their LinkedIn account look professional but they fail at that.

Setting up all your social media accounts and links, even if you never use them, makes you look sharp, knowledgeable, informed, and up to date with the latest happenings.

Even if you can't tie your own shoes or you fall off the toilet once a week.

Social media in 2021 is all about presentation and looking the role. Like it or not, it's a fact.

Again, you may not be "buying" this but it's 100% true. Having the ability to adapt to changing and challenging situations and environments is what sets a GREAT small business owner apart from just your average (almost out of business) business owner.

To be GREAT today you need to LOOK GREAT. First impressions in this distraction filled world are everything. If you don't look great you look like everyone else.

And you get lost in the crowd!

So Who Am I And Why Am I Going On About All This "Looking Good on Social Media" Stuff?

My name is Todd Herbst. I am a Facebook advertiser, web designer, email marketer, consultant, and expert copywriter. And no, that doesn't mean I'm an expert on social media... heck, I grew up in the 80s and 90s!

But since I'm a highly trained marketer and copywriter I know and understand trends. And that is why I see so many professional small business owners really mess this up. 

Now that you understand the "what" and a little about who I am, let's use an example to explain why I feel setting up your social media (especially your Facebook Personal and Business Pages) professionally is so important for you and your business.

And I'll explain it with a short story...

Jack and Jill are a sweet young couple looking to buy their first house. They live in a cute but very dangerous house on a hill. Sadly, they (mostly Jack) are always falling down the hill. With a baby on the way they need a house away from the hills and in a nice flat neighborhood.

So they open Zillow, or whatever site, and look for houses in areas with no hills. Sure enough they find a house cuter than their "Hill House" and see a Realtor listing it. Before they contact him they go check him out on social media (creepy but true). They see his personal Facebook account page with unkindly posts, his profile is unorganized with no links to other accounts, and just some plain weird stuff on it, like national beer guzzling champion and an award for most argumentative in the office.

After that they go to his Facebook Business Page and see some posts about real estate listings, links to the "I'm Better Than You" club he is president of, and some other stuff not related to his profession. His profile and bio are all about him and nothing about helping people fulfill their dreams of buying a house. Lastly, the links he has go to websites not related to social media or even real estate.

Jack and Jill go back to Zillow and see and an agent who has a welcoming and friendly smile. They go check out her personal Facebook Page and see posts of family and friends having fun and living life. They see her bio is set up so that she comes across as a real person. One who seems genuine and caring. But most striking of all is her profile is set up like nothing they have ever seen before. It's neat, tidy, organized, and congruent. It just looks so darn good!  "Wow" they say!

They click the link on her personal page and go see her Facebook Business Page. It too is clean, organized and with links to all her social media accounts and her website. But the best thing is every link has the same name. It looks so good and organized. So...


Professional

After seeing that they click the links to her social media pages and they look very professional too.

What do they do next?  They Facebook Message her and ask her about this nice house they found on Zillow and see if there is a way they can go tour it.

And just like that this Professional Realtor has a new client.

Do you think that all it took was to look very professional, be very organized, and be very friendly to get a client?
